IMHO, Les Stroud is one of the best.

Bear is the absolute worst, hands down.

So wait.....jumping 30 ft off rocks is not a solid survival necessity? ......If you want to survive, do the opposite of Bear...

I'm Bear and I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night....

I'm no survival expert, but common sense suggests it's a bad idea to eat uncooked seeds picked out of bear feces, or take a raw bite out of a living Puff Adder (which may or may not be carrying Salmonela among other things.)

I would agree......I'd consider Ray Mears to be a true SME in survival as well as incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about local indigenous survival skills.

We've had a series of 1 hour videos broadcast down here with Ray Mears on bushcraft/fieldcraft in various environments learning how to build an old school bark canoe in Canada.....hanging out with an Aboriginal lady about Outback Aussie stuff(I think related to the link you provided)....and with Hadza Bushmen in Africa....etc.

Not sure if they have been broadcast in the US?

He also did the Real Heroes of Telemark:

http://www.*******.com/watch?v=fIJSVTYDye0

Good book associated with the video as well....great story behind the Telemark Raid.

I've taught basic/intro survival and when talking to candidates afterwards I've often referenced Ray Mears content as a "healthy meal" compared with the Bear Grylls as being more like "junk food".

I'm still learning about all of this stuff myself.......I learned heaps from the senior instructors teaching me on my lesson prep to teach at a very basic level.....but the night/day difference I noticed between Bear Grylls and Ray Mears is that Bear Grylls is full on "noisy, crazy, danger"; while Ray Mears is like listening to Enya...very peaceful and calm.....economy of effort is most noticeable...and I suspect that if things got all kinds of noisy and crazy in a real life survival situation with lots of risk taking I would probably be doing it wrong.

No offense to Bear Grylls.....my two young boys enjoy watching his show with their dad and if they're going to watch some TV I'd rather it be about outside stuff.....but I prefer watching Ray Mears for a bit more substance once they're in bed........different target audiences with different attention spans I suppose!

It's my understanding(2nd hand) that while Bear Grylls spent some time in UK SF as a Terroritial, it's Ray Mears who has contributed to UK Forces body of survival skills/knowledge.

New Former SF on Dual Survival

Joe Teti is the new addition to Dual Survival. Pretty impressive resume on his website (At least impressive to a non SF guy like me). Will be interested to hear what the QP's here think about the show and it's new addition.

I was just looking him up here after I saw he was removed from the SFA. Very subtle comment which speaks volumes.

Joe Teti has brought shame to the regiment. His outright lies are what ended his short career.

I guess Hollywood is so impressed with a guy who claims to be SF, SAS, SOF, etc., that they don't even bother to do the least of vetting.

Or maybe these guys start out with modest claims, and they get bigger as they become more famous and try to impress.

I, for one, am tired of them showing people doing stupid stuff in the woods that would get them killed, if it were not for the 12 man support team trailing them around.

I was curious back in Jan 2013 so i decided to ask

Anyone can scroll up and see what I said so I won't waste your time repeating it. The response from Mark46 was vague, but subtle enough to make me leave the topic alone.

Now that he has been discussed by numerous QP's and their thoughts about him, I'm now even more curious.

If whatever Teti did is none of my business, I won't ask again. If it is something open to speak about, I would like to hear what he did/or didn't do to shame your regiment. Was he even SF?

TS, I won't get offended if you tell me to mind my business and if it's out of line to ask, I will bring all the ammo when we shoot........weather is getting perfect

I am honestly indifferent to the entire subject, but even after retirement I still get the Army Times every week and the article piqued my interest.

Quite frankly, I have better things to do than to watch a naked person try to cook a squirrel.
