Yarborough on the Bay

Looks like someone pawned their Yarborough, serial# 9008. Anyone we know?

Barbarian 01-17-2014 12:47

Erwin, I'm sure the heads up is appreciated. There are folks here who like to keep up with cases like these and address them when possible. There is a previous thread, though, dealing with these incidents. You may want to put these posts there in the future so as not to draw fire from the powers that be. It helps keep things organized. Just FYI.

Team Sergeant 01-17-2014 14:40

We are looking into it.

ghp95134 01-19-2014 18:21

I see it is listed as "sold." Was someone able to get it removed; or, did it actually sell for $899.99?

I'm not sentimental in the least when it comes to objects, but even then I can't understand why a QP would sell his Yarborough.

Some SF'er (less than 1%) don't make it past six months or they do something that gets them thrown out of the army. When that happens their Special Forces Tab is revoked and they are no longer in the regiment. In retaliation they sell their knife. Since this site has been online I think we've seen three maybe four knives for sale. We purchased one or two and sold them to a real SF soldier.

JJ2K1 02-27-2014 09:27

Just got an e-mail from a friend this morning who found one on ebay. Blade number 0346.

Snaquebite 02-27-2014 09:56

looks like the sale was ended. From the other items listed looks like possibly someone's ex-wife.

I believe that that would be one of the early knives that were sold to QP's through the museum gift shop.

I believe you are right..... 01-1000 were sold to former or retired SF soldiers.

ErwinD 04-23-2014 22:36

Yarborough #0720

And another Yarborough just popped up, Serial #0720

Bill Harsey 04-24-2014 07:26

ErwinD, nice catch. Also noted is the price being asked.

CSB 04-24-2014 09:31

They say it is from 2003-2004

Can the Ft Bragg store confirm the date, maybe the owner?

Quote:

This is a Chris Reeve Bill Harsey authentic serial numbered Yarborough knife. This particular knife is #0720 and from research believed to be from 2003-2004. This is not the civilian model "Green Beret knife". A authentic serial numbered Yarborough knife is only given to Special Forces Graduates of the Qualification course. The Yarborough is only issued once in a lifetime and is irreplaceable unless there are unusual circumstances and then appropriate paperwork must be filed and approved. This knife does not come up on the used market very often. This knife is used and does not appear to be sharpened. It does have one very tiny nick on the blade toward the tip. Please see picture. There is no other damage to the knife.

Every time we see one of these we should post the individuals name on this website.

I concur.

Jgood 04-05-2015 17:11

Yup,

in the Hall of Shame

sinjefe 04-05-2015 17:51

Second that.

The Reaper 04-05-2015 19:51

I wonder how many of these are stolen, being sold by ex- and soon to be ex-es, people who inherited them, etc.?

Once you are out of the Army, other than your honor and integrity, what would keep you from selling it?

TR

sinjefe 04-06-2015 09:29

You can respond (send e-mail) to the seller on ebay. I did, telling the fucktard what he was doing.

His response? "Hey asshole, I'm the pawn shop owner. Tell the guy who sold it to me"

My response? "Are you going to do the right thing, now that you know, and take it down?"

No answer.

That's like saying "Hey, I'm just the pawn shop owner. Not my fault it was stolen."

I'd recommend folks send that asshat an e-mail, also.

sinjefe 04-06-2015 11:37

From the pawn store owner:

"I'm in business to make money not make you happy. The person who sold me this actually was just in my store. he said he has two because they issue you one and your allowed to purchase one other so he sold me one. I showed him your message and he said that's bullshit that he can sell it."

My response:

'You can certainly do what you like and have no obligation to make me, or anyone else, happy. But, just as with anything else in life, there is cause and effect. The SF community is large and extensive. Just as you can do as you please, I can also. I am passing this info along to those in my community to let them know just what you think of this whole thing.

Just curious. When you find out something is stolen do you still sell it also, since you are "in this to make money"?

As for the idiot, who sold it to you? He is wrong and he knows it and he will end up finding this out himself.

The free market is a great thing, isn't it?"

Now more than ever, do I think this stuff, names and business that enable, ought to go in the hall of shame.

Jgood 04-08-2015 13:22

Hell yeah, they should be the tool who sold it specially the Fucktards who get booted and then sell it and the sellers once they have been notified.

Food for thought.... I would support that with established ROE on contact and notification.

FWIW

Roguish Lawyer 04-08-2015 15:29

Isn't there a record of who gets each knife?

Yes and the very reason you will not find one at a murder scene.....;)

Oldrotorhead 04-15-2015 16:28

And another Yarborough

#5862 if I'm seeing it correctly. I keep hoeing that this leads to the recovery of a stolen knife sometime.

Ah, I can imagine a very vindictive female placing one there. *shudder* Safeguard that weapon, gents!

pyreaux 12-19-2015 19:19

Looks like another one is up, serial 21?? Seller has hidden the serial. Not sure if it's authentic.

pyreaux 06-30-2016 16:51

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/142038794293

Another one up

sauerluck 08-31-2016 16:23

Looks like yet another knife is for sale on ebay. This time it's 2684.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chris-Reeves...EAAOSw6n5XugqB

Is there still a concerted effort track this stuff?

Item location:
Fort Walton Beach, Florida, United States

glebo 09-01-2016 06:48

most likely a 7th GPer...or...ex wife of former...

Bettendorf 09-01-2016 20:06

Wow. Frankly, I'm surprised the bidding is as high as it is for such a suspect item. I know if I was a knife collector, I'd want to buy one from the soldier themselves with some added provenience like a sign letter and redacted DD-214.

But people are silly and sometimes Ebay prices reflect that fact.

kawika 09-18-2016 00:26

All of the sellers other items are stuff from the GIP - Ops core straps, eagle pouches, etc.

pyreaux 04-30-2017 08:45

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/282444803013
